Korea!!

In a strange twist, I ended up in Korea. It must be fate. Well, actually, it was Cheju Island, and not Seoul. But it was very Korean nonetheless. How Korean? Even Cheju advertises EVERYWHERE that the island was the location of the drama "All In."

My mom made me take pictures at every "All In" landmark. I prefer the other scenery in Cheju, though--it's a lot like Hawaii. Although I've never been to Hawaii, that's what my parents tell me. But they've never been to Hawaii either. So I guess in the end, it's just an island with a lot of Asians.

Going to Cheju was literally a breath of fresh air compared to smoggy Taiwan. It's so CLEAN here. The air is fresh, everything is green, the water is CLEAR! It's probably because they have a trash policy very similar to Japan, where everyone is responsible for their own trash and there aren't very many public trash cans. Suprisingly, this policy works. I saw very little trash on the ground.

The food was bland. After 3 days of Korean food, aka kimchee and rice, the only thing I looked forward to every dinner was the soju. Our dinners came with free soju--soju that flowed like water. I had 8 shots of soju at our last dinner there. Speaking of our dining experience, I have to say that the best place we went to was a korean bbq owned and operated by one family. These were the nicest people I have met. EVER. They served us so well even though they couldnt speak english and we couldn't speak korean. They even treated us to soda after we declined an offer of alcohol (very unlike me haha). We had black pork, which is a specialty of the island. It was pretty tasty, especially the stomach/bacon cuts that we had.

Overall, I had a pleasant time in Korea. It was a nice change of pace from the city life I've been living. The shopping was fun, the eating was pretty good, and our tour guides were fun. Good times
